These images reinterpret the famous cards of the Marseille tarot. The artist Agnès Kappler, specialized in popular art and the representation of random phenomena, expresses in a schematic style inspired by science and anatomy books, a new form of symbolism, stylized and simplified to address everyone, whatever age, culture or beliefs.

The artist's point of view:

" It is a tarot deck unique in its kind in its sobriety and the absence of human faces. I tried to summarize each archetype of the Tarot in a simplistic graphic inspired by scientific diagrams, printed circuits, crystallography diagram, anatomy of biological tissues, cellular structure and thermodynamic networks illustrating immutable biological and physical phenomena, as if these images could address all forms of life: mineral, plant, technological, artificial, human or even extraterrestrials. In creating this deck, I sought simplicity and reading efficiency. I therefore called it “the Schematic Tarot”. It seems important to me that its imagery be accessible to as many people as possible. But, I free the game from religious symbolism by replacing Highness, Pope and Devil with Wisdom, Guide and Division. In addition, I wish to bring a contemporary and refreshed vision of the Tarot to make Hermetic Knowledge more accessible. In the background there is this quest to nourish a universal language and to work towards peace between peoples. "

On the back of the cards Agnes Kappler expresses her pictorial work on the observation of chance and natural phenomena. She channels her impressions and translates them sensitively into a painted representation of the intangible thanks to techniques of superimposing very fine glazes giving the illusion of a harmonic vibration.

The artist's point of view: " The indigo patina and the stellar labyrinth created exclusively for the Schematic Tarot are inspired by the mysterious depth of the sky which responds to the more distressing depth of the oceans. The stars symbolize the inspiration to create our path. The paths of the labyrinth are so many possibilities available to us. Of course, the labyrinth also suggests difficulties, trials and the need to achieve.

Description of the Work

A divinatory Tarot deck made up of 22 handcrafted cards inspired by the Tarot de Marseille, illustrated on the front and back, and made by hand. A unique work signed by Agnes Kappler. The faces are a Fine Art digital print of the original hand drawn designs by Agnes Kappler. Each card is a miniature work initially created and colored with Indian ink.

The backs of the 22 cards are all parts from a work created on all the cards before cutting. This is a deep indigo blue painting illustrated with an illuminated Labyrinth in Japanese silver connecting the Stars of the Pleiades constellation enhanced with 24 carat Gold.
